Introduction

Pipeline leakage is the leading source of methane emissions in the natural gas sector. Methane is 82 times more powerful than CO2 at trapping heat, so getting methane emissions under control is a must for combating climate change. Between 1.4 and 2.3% of all natural gas extracted and processed in the United States is lost to leaks. With production low and demand high, that's money leaking into the atmosphere.
