He says they are somewhat distinct from both the national view set and the sort of Nixon and Reagan era conservative. Welch: I've mentioned this book before by Joe Lowndes, L-O-W-N-D-E-S. It's called From the New Deal to the New Right. And it makes a case that the right had their eye on the Southern Democrats who were kind of hostile to maybe elements of the New Deal.
