It is the only ending that feels true to the Joel we have just spent a season of TV with or an entire game with. I thought that Marlene saying because she lives in a broken world that you could have saved was like an all time, cutting, gutting line. It's not like Joel as a rational being doesn't understand the truth behind what Marlene is saying. But anything he can do to delay that, he will. If you don't think there's hope for the world, why bother going on? Who wants to believe that there is hope and reason to hope more broadly?"
