Plato's metaphor of the cave can actually be redeployed to think about what modern science has been telling us. There is a wonderful episode in Star Trek called second commander Riker meets himself as he was essentially left behind on a planet during a teleportation accident. You don't have to agree with the conclusions that a certain other draws, but what is interesting is the prize. The right answer might be something that is incomprehensible given our current framework for how we view the world and our level of understanding.
