The Challenges of ML in the Social Sciences

A lot of industrial applications of machine learning can happen in any industry, including a social science one. But the ones that make headlines tend to have the benefit of really big volumes of data to train on. I don't know that that's often the case in the social sciences. A lot of social science surveys are focused on very small data sets or small by the standards of machine learning practitioners.
