Right now there are no studies that are looking at plant sterols and lower cardiovascular disease risk. Our group in Toronto is hoping that one day we'll be able to do this so my PhD supervisor Dr. John Seavenpiper he recently received a grant to conduct a study of 1,000 high-risk patients. The primary outcomes are reductions in LDL and non-HDL cholesterol but the plan is that we see if we get those reductions over the years that we would extend this trial for five more yearsSo possibly we might be able to look at some harder outcomes of the portfolio diet that includes plant sterols.
