Western Washington's always had a certain number of white supremacists, and this goes back to the 1920s and 30s. The order the neo-Nazi terrorist gang in 1984 embarked on a criminal rampage that included assassinating radio talk show host and robbing over 20 banks and armored cars. Their compound was in Hayden, which is about 40 miles south of Sandpoint. They were finally brought to ground by the FBI that year, but their legend lives on as it were,. especially among the neo-Nazis.
