How to Reduce Running Costs

The Minnesota starvation experiment showed that they would use their resting metabolic rate by about 600 calories a day. We had people who ran across North America. Took them five months, and they ran a marathon a day. Six days a week. Towards the end they did it just seven days a week because they weren't on track or whatever. And so even in that case, the body is finding 600 kilocalories or so to spare. It's really interesting it didn't show up in their basal metabolic rates as far as you can measure it.
