The Paradox of Identity
The default experience of meditation is to feel identical to the next thought. David Perry has a theory about it called the cognitive affordance theory. He says all these thoughts that you see arise in meditation are actually proto cells or proto thoughts calling out to you. The idea is that prefrontal cortex, executive areas latch onto elements from the default mode network that compete in you and then you identify.
