"I love Sacramento. I loved growing up there," she says of her childhood in California. "There were so many people who had such a strong sense of place that those were always the people and the writers that I gravitated towards whether it was Irish writers or Southern writers like Tennessee Williams." She adds, "You can write from where you are. You don't have to have had a different life".
