The Fire Resistance of Mass Timber Buildings
The Milwaukee skyscraper was built out of mass timber, a type of wood that is fireproofed by an outer layer. "Imagine you're camping and you throw a gigantic log on the campfire. It doesn't burn," says CNN's John Defterios. The building code allows for a path to approval if it can be proven as well in a fire as concrete or steel.
