Baldwin-Spurger's Critical View of the Synoptic Gospels
Baldwin-Spurger: The goal of John is not to expound as an author, secondary author of scripture. He says that the entire design of at least the first three chapters of the Gospel of John is an apologetic or polemic against a quote unquote Baptist sect. Baldon-Sperger held that Matthew and Luke are not historically reliable documents when it comes to the identity of Jesus in general and his relation to John the Baptist in particular.
