Most intermittent fasting involves intentionally reducing calories for at least one or two days in a week or few days in a month. Many of the studies started in mice, but alternate day fasting, five, two, and Walter's periodic fasting have now been done in humans. So that led to the idea that all these forms of fasting in which the total calorie can take on any given day is reduced for one or more days. And so that's why people use the same term as intermittent fasting.
