The Importance of Unity in Sparta

Sparta's society was designed to keep everyone on the straight and narrow path of civic virtue. The Spartan institutions were specifically built to try to turn all the future citizens into basically the same guy. You can never have a dispute between the armed forces and the civilian government, because the armed forces is the government. And compared to other places in ancient Greece, Spartan women had a pretty good status.
