Narcissistic abusers are notorious for doing this. By manipulating victims' emotions and then their belief system, abusers are able to alter the way that they see themselves,. The last thing a narcissist abuser needs is a confident, healthy whole-loving, assertive, and self-aware victim. So all of these qualities are erode what they try to gas-like reject, deny, and destroy. But ultimately, this is enmeshment, which is a bait and it's a ploy to get victims to buy into this false notion of connectedness. Once the enmeshments happens, it becomes very difficult to even separate yourself from the relationship.
