The Tri-Fail Cycle
When you write a book, fundamentally information is being hidden from you because we haven't gotten to the end of the book yet. I think for a mystery type story, this is really the heart of the tri-fail cycle: The thing you are trying to do is gain more information. And one of the best ways to sort of appease an audience when you give them bad information or if they're not getting the answer that they wanted was making sure it wasn't connected to character.
