The Impact of Piped Drinking Water on Women's Employment
There are four ways in which indoor pipe drinking water affects women's employment and therefore women's empartment. The first is this reallocation of time that you talked about, the amount of time spent on household chores reduces so there is more time for leisure or for work. The second channel is that there is just better personal health, like you said, now the surface water contamination problem reduces to a very large extent. Third is improvements, not just in the women's health, but also children's health. And fourth is over all less illness in the family, which also reduces the amount of household or domestic work that women do.
