Martha said to me, you know, in new york we have a full life, but an unbeautiful existence. And paris we have a beautiful existence, but not a full life. It's a choice i've often regretted, frankly. A good thing about it is that french kids tend to be sensitive in a way that american kids are often spoiled. We don't teach our kids that authority is unappeasable until it smacks them on the side of the head when they're 19 or 20 and join the army.
