The First Hollywood Blacklist of the McCarthy Era
In the 1940s, anti-communism was percolating in different corners of America. Some of the fiercest anti-communist warriors were businessmen close to Chiang Kai-shek. In 1950, as McCarthyism coursed through the country, Counter-Attack released a list of 151 people in entertainment and broadcast journalism who were supposedly Communists. The first person to ever be a victim of the McCarthyite purge, now being called a blacklist, was Jean Mir.
