Borders and Politics
The border is not necessarily where we can best understand processes of bordering. Bordering is something that happens everywhere, and i was interested in thinking about how ideas of nation are made up from the intermingling of things that have come from overseas. I didn't want my book to just be a travel log or a piece of kind of er, jourying through the countryside,. which was about me it had to be something that discloses the broader debate between nature and society. So i hope what i've written reads like a journey along the coast at times - but also an academic book that tries to connect what i'm seeing, hearing, to broader ideas of landscape and identity.
