The Transformation of Italy in the Early Iron Age
All across Italy at the dawn of the Iron Age, populations were rising. Agriculture and pastoralism both grew more intensive. This was the context that produced the growth of proto-urban centers that would eventually become cities. Greek and Phoenician traders had begun to arrive no later than the middle of the 8th century BC. That was when Rome was said to have been founded.
