The Secular Narrative in Iraq

When the Americans invaded, they exposed a lot of divisions in Iraqi society. Over time, those divisions became more salient. The sectarian narrative kind of was based on victimhood. And now it is those people who will be ruling Iraq that created a split within the society. That split was the beginning of a civil war. A civil war doesn't start when people start shooting at each other across the street. It starts when this society is divided along sectarian or ethnic lines.
