The Ice Coffin
The waiting houses evolved and became more elaborate throughout their usage. The remains of fallen soldiers needed to be transported by train all over the country, which could take days. Hence need for coffins with builton chambers, for blocks of ice to essentially freeze the body and stave off decomposition. They even had these, like, little holes in tubes for run off of water once the ice melted.
