The Future of the Field of Control
In your book, the field is young and its future may look something like the dream you had in mind before you read this preface. I have confidence that the fundamental principles in this book will remain valuable without the shackles of the optimal control paradigm. It would be so beautiful if we could forget about optimizing and then get decision rules that have good properties. We want cheapness and we want, you know, I don't know. Anyway, everything's multi objective. And you think that by relaxing our goals and make things easier, we just haven't figured how to do that yet.
