The Paradox of the Famous Actress on the Stage
Theatre in the Restoration was quite different from what we expect today. Audiences would come clearly not to see the play, but to chat with their friends. Orange Shelling was taking place during the play, rather than just at intermission. There was an idea that you could be more of a subtle performer in the restoration.
