The Future of Physics
The LHC seemed to be a great opportunity to find new particles, new phenomena. And we did get the Higgs particle out of it, but not the more ambitious ideas about supersymmetry that I certainly was hoping for. The energy is just high, not high enough anyway. But in any case, the LHC was a big expensive project. And just as a practical matter, I think it's difficult to motivate potential investors, both of time and money, to build that without a clear indication that something good would come out of it.
