The Importance of the Italian Fleet's Surrender
CNN's John Defterios looks at the significance of Italy's surrender. He says it was a material and strategic victory for the Allies. The Italian fleet, which had been the fifth largest navy in the world, is eliminated from the Axis order of battle. This means that Germany will have to make up for lost resources by sending troops into Italy itself as they try to gain control there.
