Tyler Cowan was never like a doctrine or libertarian at all, he was always a guy who had some libertarianish ideas and then some other ideas. A lot of folks like him looked at this issue and they said, well, you know, maybe the libertarians best of luck to them, but I'm not that interested in culture warring. And so they started working intellectually on a project that I think Tyler Cowan called state capacity libertarianism. They're sort of saying, let's just think about the economic issues and figure out how to get those right than they were in the 2000s.
