The Problem With Polygamy Deniers
In 1861, Illinois passed the Married Women's Property Act. It enabled women in the state of Illinois to own and manage their own real estate. But prior to 1861, no woman should be getting property on her own. And yet in Nauvoo in the 1840s, in 1841, there's only a handful of them, four or five. In January 1843, Joseph estimated that some 12,000 people lived in the area.
