Chronic Pain
One of the major causes of chronic persistent pain is neuropathic pain. The nervous system reacts to that damage by trying to compensate but it overcompensates and changes the processing such that it becomes pathologicalprocessing. Light touch to the area where they're nervous damage is exquisitely painful cold is another major stimulus cool stimulus now becomes burning and very unpleasant and lasts for a long long period. And that's unfortunately something Rachel is very familiar with.
