Is This an Isolationist Nation?

Every textbook I've seen in every student I've talked to has said, well, this is an isolationist nation. But you can't teach that the United States was isolationist because it never was isolationist. It had enough work to do in expanding from sea to shining sea. The native people were recognized by the government of the United States as individual nations, as people. They signed treaties with them. So they're recognizing that they exist, that they're people, and then the U.S. declares war against them. That's what he meant by pretended patriotism.
