Is There a Principle of Normative Unity?

Gender is a central social function that divides people very reliably into a kind of spivricated set of social roles. So when I say in our social world, gender is the principle of normative unity. In quite historically just different times and geographically different places, you can look how a society is organized around this central and necessary function. It doesn't have to be set up this way. But it has been. And that's why I think that gender is a better candidate to be the principle of normality than race.
