New York's First Christmas Tree

The first christmas tree in new york was dedicated two years after the opening of rockefeller centre. In 19 12, bells from the metropolitan life tower rang throughout the city to announce a dazzling spectacle. Almost 25 thousand people showed up that night to witness and enjoy an evening's long slate of coral entertainment. Christmas had already been robustly commercialized by october of 19 29 when the wall street stock market crash up ended the american financial system. Those who were out of work would find shelter in various shanty towns throughout New York during the great depression.
