The Role of Overthinking in Problem Solving

Psychologists have divided overthinking into two general linked categories. One is rumination where you replay past mistakes over and over in your mind, dwelling on problems or losses. The other is what's often known as worry - where you endlessly consider future events that could go wrong. It can affect sleep, impaired decision making skills, hurt our ability to take action when action is needed. Understanding overthinking is the first step towards managing it.
