The East German Revolution of 1989
On october ninth 19 89, 100 thousand protesters marched around leipzig. This was a sudden expansion of weekly candle light peace vigils that had gone on for several years. East germany had experienced unrest before, notably in 19 53 when soviet troops killed hundreds of workers protesting food shortages and communism in general. These events made the east german regime keenly aware of the need for consumer goods to keep the people from crossing the red line of unhappiness.
