The Cult of Domesticity in the Western World
The 19th century is the birth of what we call the cult of domesticity in the Western world. The idea that women should be pious, should be especially religious and are submissive within these home spaces. It's a way to define us versus them. Only a very few women could really aspire to be the type of women called by the cult of Domesticity.
