i think there is prevalence in activist groups and cults of this thing that, i don't know, seems like it should be so innocent at the outset. Human psychology isn't equipped to handle these dynamics very well. The effects on the critiqued individual are remarkably similar. I believe one can invoke many forms of evidence for this but the easiest one is just that rates of abuse and substance use have been increasing rapidly.
