Popularism is a strain of politics that has a chilling histtory and is dangerous. Johnson introduced it with a very winning style and a likable style, if you like that kind of thing. But i don't think we should sort of look on admiringly at the introduction of that particular vein of populism into british life. What's happening in america now, i find deeply disturbing. It's going through a real period of agony as a direct result of the sort of popolism that i was trying to describe. And really, we've seen it in these last forty hours, in me, in one person, because i have the mandate of the people.
In a special programme following the resignation of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of the UK, we hear from columnist, author and former foreign correspondent Jonathan Freedland, and journalist, author and former editor of The Evening Standard and The Times Simon Jenkins, about where the country is headed next. Our host for the discussion is award-winning journalist and broadcaster Manveen Rana.
