How Did You Get Your Start in Journalism?
I started walking up and down the street and taking notes on what was happening in people's lives. And then I would go home and write it all out in long hand. My poor mother would use this typewriter to type it up. This is before the day of Z-Rock's machines. She would type it up using a special carbon paper. Then I had a jelly sheet, a jelly sheet copy machine so I could put the original on the copy machine and run off 30 copies. And I would sell them for a nickel up or down the street.
