Cognitive dissonance is a good way to protect yourself from your own cognitive dissonance. If you find out you're wrong, you don't have to hallucinate why you were really right all along and how the truth isn't the truth. You just say at the same time, totally possible I'm 100% wrong. It lessens the persuasion of my predictions, but not the power of them. But anything's possible, right? We can be surprised by anybody.
