The Grand Mama of Black Women's Filmmaking
A film scholar, Haley O'Malley, was doing some archival work and basically came on to find that this happened in 1976. The festival also paid homage to Madeline Anderson, who began making documentaries in the 1950s. She was called the Grand Mama of Black Women's Filmmaking. In 1976, at the original festival, she received the Women of the Year award.
