The Role of Library Cataloging in the Advancement of Queer Theory
The way that books are catalogued in libraries carries with it certain assumptions. If we believe that Thomas Jefferson is a hero and we file books about him under something that looks heroic, that tells one story. But if we think that he is a villain and we file it that way, it tells another story. So understanding that and then trying to disrupt the way that we classically have filed and catalogued books so that we can advance the ideas and the politics of queer theory would be queering the catalog.
