Jack wanted to win the hand of his sweetheart, Annie. He told her he had a magic table that covered in food at all times. She called him 'a lying scoundrel' and said she would beat him with a rolling pin. The innkeeper crept into Jack's room when he was asleep and swapped it for an ordinary one.
