The History of Wedding Dresses

In 1942 1.8 million weddings took place in the US which was up 83% from 10 years before and two-thirds of those brides were marrying men newly enlisted. In 1943 a UPI reported if she's lucky the June bride of 1943 may still find some fancy lingerie and nylon hose for her trussaud but the froufrou garments will be far less extensive than in peacetime. Queen Elizabeth II married Philip Mountbatten in 1947 and bought the fabric needed to make her dress using clothing ration coupons. However the government did give her an additional 200 extra coupons because she's the queen.
