The Impact of Developmental Experiences on the Brain

There's a good starting question here about just why is it that developmental experiences, particularly early in childhood and maybe even particularly ones that are negative or traumatic in nature, have such a long tail of impact through a person's life. And I think most people who are listening are pretty well aware that the development of the brain is very, very front loaded. So what happens is if these systems become abnormally regulated or impacted by some sort of developmental insult, like intrauterine alcohol or perinatal attachment problems,. there's a cascade of risk in all of the areas they communicate with.
