The Difference Between J and APL
J by far wins on that point. It has way more specialized mathematical primitives in the core language. J definitely is better because it has these extended precision numbers and a lot of things you can do with them. Other stuff kind of hard to say, like if you're interested in numerical optimization, I don't think J has anything extra to offer in that area. You just want to write the thing and it's much more of an ordinary programming task even though it would be considered part of applied mathematics.
