A new study suggests that changes in inner core rotation rate might be linked to ever so slight changes in the length of a day. This is not enough time to have an extra cup of tea in the morning, these are really, really tiny changes. We're talking about changes which are maybe a tenth of a millisecond in the lengthof a day. So they're tiny, tiny fractions. And maybe 30 years ago, the inner core was just moving an ever so slightly different speed to the rocky layers of the earth. That's the big takeaway.
