I went in that film school first in the same city where I actually went to as a 14-year-old. It's an art school and I wanted to do more narrative filmmaking, fiction filmmaking. After NYU, I kept watching these new,. it was 94 when I finished and was sort of the height of indie filmmaking. There was a company, a tiny company, called Good Machine. They made the, you know, Todd Haynes’s movies and Ang Lee films. And then he said, well, then you got to leave. You can't work. As a director, you just have to go out and do it.
