Is the Ocean Really Unique on Our Planet?

Every single one of my uncles has drowned, or something like that. Something about the ocean as a whole, like a giant body of water. I feel lik a lot of people see the ocean as representing mystery and grand creatures we couldn't even imagine. It is just the unknown, like, i think that's predominantly what makes it so terrifying to me.
