The Nightmare of Salambo

Salambo is a catalog of horrors and particularly a catalog of waste. Lives, cities, every artifact created by humankind is destroyed to no purpose. And one of the great characters of the novel is sort of the ancestor of the Baron Harkonnen. Frank Herbert must have read Salambo when he was young because when he invented the Baron Harksonnen, he was thinking of Hano.
